Castle Neuschwanstein
You are interessted in the Neuschwanstein castle? We want to give you a
few informations about it´s first owner, it´s history, the rooms, the
sourrounding area and the castle today.
The first owner- King Ludwig, the second
King Ludwig the second was born in 1845. With just 19 years he became
the King of Bavaria in 1864.
King Ludwig had already become something of a legend, even before he
died in the year 1886. He told his governess once, that he wanted to
remain an eternal mystery to hisself and to other people. King Ludwig
the second was a shy dreamer. He did not have those typical
characteristics of a famous king. And thats exactly the point, which was
finally his downfall.
The history of the castle
Ludwig the second had the dream to rebuild an old castle ruin of
Hohenschwangau. He was very excited to live there someday. He said, that
the location was one of the most wonderful to be found. It was very
important for him, that his castle had been in a quiet place, where he
can find his freedom of the public.
The beginning of the building was in september, 1869. About 15 years
later, King Ludwig the second could move into his palace. But the
building still went on. The King had more and more wishes how the castle
should be. A lot of new planes had been made. After the death of King
Ludwig the castle was built in the easiest way.
The surrounding area
The King of Bavaria was a great fan of the nature. His first priority
was not to destroy the beauty of the surrounding nature by building the
Castle. Of course he gave the builders this instructions to fulfill. You
can see, that they have done their job very well, because the
surrounding area is almost so wunderful as the castle itself.
The view from some windows of the castle remindes you on a framed
landscape painting.
The castle today
Today the Neuschwanstein castle is one of the most popular of all the
castles and palaces in Europe. In summer you will find about 6.000
visitors a day! Every year 1,3 Million people come and visit the castle
Neuschwanstein.
In 1886, just seven weeks after the death of King Ludwig the second,
Neuschwanstein was opened the first time to the public.
The free state of Bavaria spent about 14,5 million euros on renovation
and maintenance of the castle.
