Bavaria

The free-state Bavaria is a state of germany.  Near Waldsassen you can still see the place which marks the centre of Europe. Bavaria has become the gate to the neighbours in Europe.  The neighbours are Hessen, Baden-Württemberg,  in west and north-west, Saxony, Thuringia in north, the Czech Republic and Austria in the south. Bavaria´s border is 2,705 km long, it is the same distance between Munich and Moscow.
The largest state in Germany is Bavaria. 12 million people live and work there. Bavaria is growing still more. One million people moved to Bavaria.
Bavaria combines untouched nature and vibrant life. Bavaria’s characterised appearance is by the panorama of the Alps. Bavarian has a lot of lakes, threre are the Chiemsee for example and the lake starnberg too. Along the “Romantische Strasse"  called "Romantic Road", the way from Füssen to Würzburg, the character of towns have survived unaltered since the centuries. And the countryside has structures of the villages. Bavaria presents facets to the world, who are different.

Bavarian History
Bavaria is one of the oldest states in Europe. The history go back in 6th century. In the Ages, Bavaria was a dukedom, the first under the Guelphs. Cities like Regensburg developed into cultural centres of Europe. After the Thirty Years War, Bavarian Electorate played an important role in the political powers. In the 19th century Bavaria became a monarchy and the scene of a great cultural blossoming and a lot of political reforms. After the First World War, Bavaria were at first dictated by the “Räterepublik”, a Communistled republic, before a constitution with a parliamentary democracy came, that was in 1919. In the National Socialist period, it have lost independence as a state. In December 1946 the Constitution for the Bavarian Free State.
More than one thousand years a Bavarian elected Pope, on 19 April 2005, it is Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger. Much other positions, Ratzinger, he was born in Marktl, was Professor for Theology and Archbishop of Munichin and Regensburg and Freising before he become John Paul II as Pope Benedict XVI.

Allgäu Holidays
The Allgäu counts to one of the popular tourist regions of Germany. Mountains, lakes and resorts attract hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Estimated is especially the diversity of the region. You can find all kinds of sports exercise, like any winter sports here. The Allgäu is the biggest winter sports centre of Germany. In addition to the sports offerings in the region, there are also many cultural facilities, such as the famous castle of Neuschwanstein.
The Allgäu is an holiday destination for families, for singels, for friends, for nature fans and for those who have fun with sports.

The landscape of the Allgäu covers the south of the Bavarian Schwaben, former Landkrei cheeks in Baden-Wuerttemberg and some municipalities from Tyrol. One distinguishes the Allgäu in four sub-regions: Ostallgäu, Oberallgäu, Unterallgäu and the Westallgäu. You can find the famous Allgäuer Alps in the Oberallgäu.

In the Allgäu region are living about 560,000 people. The name of the Allgäu derived from the old, german words "alb" = Mountain and "göu" = landscape. So you could say that the region name means "Mountain Landscape".

The Allgäu is exactly the right destination for those who would like to enjoy the beautiful nature.
There is a diversity of nature in any manner necessary. From beautiful lakes, over endless green lawns to countless mountains. All this has the Allgäu for you to show.
You can find the Allgäuer-mountains more in the south of the region. They have a high importance for the tourism. The visitors are coming in winter and in summer. You can do all types of mountain- and winter sports here.
The diversity of Allgäuer Lakes characterizes the country, as well as its mountains. Everywhere in the Allgäu countless, beautiful lakes are inviting you to cool refreshment, water sports or just to relax.

 

Bavaria Sightseeing



The most well-known building in the Allgaeu is the Neuschwanstein Castle. This was the fairytale castle of King Ludwig, the second. Well over one million visitors each year come to see the fabulous castle to visit. The royal palace was built in 1868. The then King of Bavaria let this castle built in a quiet place, inz order to have a place which he withdraw from th public.
For each Allgäu visitors is the castle probably a duty visit, because this wonderful retrospective in the past should have experienced every time.
Another beautiful old building is the castle of Hohenschwangau. This was discovered of the then 18-year-old Crown Prince Maximilian of Bavaria as he took a walk trough the woods. However, it was in a very bad condition. Nevertheless, he decided to purchase and let the castle rebuild. From 1833 until 1837 expanded the old castle to beautiful residential palace.
The dream castle from the Romantic period became model for many subsequent buildings.

The Sturmannshöhle could also be a highlight of your visit in the Allgäu. 300 meters below the earth, followed of the mystical tales and stories from the fascinating world of primeval. About 120 million years old rock formations accompany you on the path to the Dragon Gate, past the dragon- cave, straight to the cave- boiler. The bottom floor of the cave is a cave roaring brook. You can reach this bottom floor since hundred years if you take another 180 steps down to earth.
For fans of the old history of mankind is the Sturmannshöhle an absolute must.

Another trip to the past can be in the highest open-air museum Germany. Here you can easily understand how the Allgäu-mountain farmers spent their days in the past and today.
The tour through the museum offers a magnificent view of the summit of the Allgäuer Alps. A variety of exhibition areas, the museum shop and the museum farm leave no boredom.

For the sports- enthusiasts has the Allgäu much to offer. There are countless ski resorts, which invite you to have fun at skiing or sledding. You can do almost all sorts of winter sports here.
But not only the winter sport will find its fans. You can take a long walk through the Allgäuer-alps on its beautiful ways trough the mountains. If you prefer to bike, you can use one of the many mountain bike ways.
Golf fans will also find their pleasure, because you can find a lot of of golf courses everywhere in the Allgäu.

After these informations about the region, the important buildings and places to visit you can see, that the Allgäu is a region with a lot of possibilities. No matter what you like to do, the Allgäu offers it to you. Maybe that´s the reason for the huge number of visitors.
